Nice article on booking keynote speakers

This is a good article on booking keynote speakers in Manchester, but the advice is relevant for any event manager or poor soul left with the unenviable opportunity of organising a team day, conference, or staff event.

Nice keynote speaker article

On this blog we have written a lot on booking speakers. The bureau’s have long dominated this area, but like all intermediaries, there are real opportunities for businesses and event’s managers to get better value for money by going direct via the power of google. I found this nice article online on the process.

National Speakers Association, New York City

Well, its been an incredible conference here!

I have met so many incredible people which for a Brit, makes it sound like I have got rapped up in some of the American [over] enthusiasm. However, it has been truely brilliant. The Americans perform the art of public speaking like no other. Their professionalism is incredible and there is no “blagging it” on the day as we often see in the UK. The speeches are well presented, clearly have been rehearsed many times, and hit the mark.

The word “but” was the discussion of one speech from a top US business coach. He said that he once “fined” an executive he was coaching $20 every time he used the word “but”. He made $420 in the first session. Why was this important?

“But” it was explained becomes more than the beginning of a sentence which presents an alternative view. It stops you from truely considering the other person’s perspective. It becomes an excuse to prevent the hassle of change. And its negative and encourages a negative attitude to develop. This is not to say that you not disagree, far from it. Just avoid using this term.

There have been so many other great speeches as well on family, life, choice evaluation, motivation, etc. And some great workshops too. If you ever get the opportunity to attend an NSA conference, don’t miss it. Right, I need to get back now!
